Billie picks up a pair of unusual guides along the way: Tracey Ullman voices Ms. Quill, an enchanted feather pen, and Stephen Fry plays Elias Quire, a magical book.
The film is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, with Josie Trinidad as co-director. The trio collectively has credits on Frozen, Encanto, Big Hero 6, Moana and Wish. During development, the team reworked the concept by changing the protagonist from a teenage boy to a girl to better connect with contemporary audiences.
Disney offered early glimpses of the film at CinemaCon 2026 and the Annecy Animation Festival before dropping the full trailer.
Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the first trailer for Hexed, its 65th animated feature, set to open in U.S. theaters Nov. 25.
The fantasy adventure follows Billie, a socially awkward teenager voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, who discovers she has magical powers and is pulled into a hidden world called Hexe — along with her cautious mother, Alice, played by Rashida Jones. The realm is populated by witches, enchanted creatures and animated objects, with the story centering on identity, family and belonging.
Hexed arrives as coming-of-age stories centered on young women continue to draw strong audience interest, and as Disney works to balance original projects with its growing slate of sequels and franchise films.
