The Government Service Insurance System is set to launch this month the GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program, a new educational assistance initiative for children of qualified active members pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics degrees.

Eligible applicants must be children of GSIS active members holding permanent employment status at Salary Grade 15 and below, with updated premium payments for the last three months. Nominees must be incoming first-time college freshmen who earned a General Weighted Average of at least 90% in Senior High School and are enrolled in identified STEM degree programs.

Qualified grantees will receive ₱15,000 per academic year. GSIS has allotted 1,000 slots nationwide, with 20% reserved for applicants from special sectors, including Indigenous Peoples, solo parent families, and persons with disabilities.

GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said the program reflects the agency's belief that education is among the most important investments for the country's future.

"Sa pamamagitan ng GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program, nais naming tulungan ang mga anak ng ating mga miyembro na maabot ang kanilang mga pangarap at maging susunod na henerasyon ng mga siyentipiko, inhinyero, teknolohista, at innovator na mag-aambag sa pag-unlad ng Pilipinas," he said.

The program aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s push to expand access to quality education and develop a future-ready Filipino workforce.

GSIS will conduct a nationwide orientation for assigned coordinators covering program guidelines, requirements, application procedures, and the selection process ahead of implementation.
